We tend to worship people who do great things. Cool, except when it blinds us to who they really are. We all have flaws and the capacity for both greatness and awfulness. Our job is keeping our own awful in check and not giving others a pass when they don’t do the same. Perhaps Bowie was right when he sang: “we can be heroes, but just for one day.”
