With technological advancements, we face two questions: “How do we maximize the benefits,” and “How do we minimize the negatives?” Interestingly with AI, every individual and organization faces these decisions. Here is a spectrum of responses to this opportunity: some you will agree with, some you won’t, and some (we hope) you will adopt.

Only too human

There is much to learn from artists’ challenges with AI-generated facsimiles of their work. The fundamental issue is establishing the value of “the real thing” when the copy may be just as good. Soon, if not now, we will be forced to justify our worth. It is advantageous to answer the question before most realize it applies to them.

The leadership team from Dictator must have been sampling their inventory when they decided to make AI their CEO. Maybe someday, but not now. Mika may be a great marketing gimmick, but it certainly is not ready for effectively leading and problem-solving.

AI bla bla bla

This summer my 16-year-old nephew bragged about how he uses ChatGPT and other “hacks” to “write” his high school reports. I’m like “dude, how about just learning to write, like your young, cool auntie?” Then I reconsidered. His world will be AI-rich. By holding dear to the things that mattered in the past, i.e., NOW, we may be jeopardizing our own futures…

We’re entering an era where technology will be used to help, to hurt, to help, to hurt, to help, to… you get the picture. Are we ready?

I am biased

Most failed change initiatives suffered from errors of reasoning, either cognitive biases or fallacies that led to poor results. If you are like me, you have been influenced by most of the 9 mental traps that leaders suffer. The most common leadership team bias I see now is number 5: False Consensus Effect.
